"You know your orders?"

"Hunt down the young prince and steal the legendary sword."

"And?"

"And end his life in the process."

"Good." The cloaked figure made the mistake of turning his back on the woman. A sharp dagger to his neck made him freeze with fear.

"Hold on." Dark strands of brown hair covered part of her angelic face.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" She dug her knife into his flesh reminding him of what he forgot.

"Of course." He fished in his pockets until he found what she desired.

"I can't tell if you're crazy to take on this job or a damned fool."

The woman took the bag of gil and the heavy weight made her smile.

"What does that matter what I am to people? As long as I get my payment. I could care less what others think."

"How will you do it?" The man wasn't sure such a beauty could even stand a chance against he prince. "Other assassins have tried and failed"

The woman in question pursed her shiny lips, amused by his doubt.
"I have special training. I'm sure I can kill a spoiled royal brat with spiky hair."

The woman brushed off her customer's worries to the side.

"King Noctis and Queen Luna's son is a formidable opponent or so I've heard. The royal family is holding a banquet tonight, yes?"

The man nodded, "Yes. In their capital city Midgar."

"Then consider the job done by midnight."

Aerith disappeared in a cloud of smoke ending their meeting.

She made her way through the throng of people in the slums in the Sector 7 district. The sectors were the poorest part of capital of Midgar.

She walked up to a stand placing twenty pieces of gil.

"I need equipment." The young girl smirked up at her with such mirth.

"Sure!" She chirped, brown eyes lighting up. "What do you need?"

"Let's see. About a hundred grenades. Over a dozen potions. An extra set of throwing knives. A chocobo for travel. Oh!" Aerith grabbed her metal staff from its sheath behind her.
"This needs an upgrade as well."

"Whoa! That's gonna cost ya a whole lot more gil! Like 200 at least!"

Aerith furrowed her brows. "I have 150." She sighed this was just her rotten luck. "Whelp! No service then."

Aerith growled. "Listen. I have a mission to complete tonight. Stop wasting my time!"

"What's so dangerous about this mission?" The girl yawned stretching in her booth. Aerith motioned the girl closer. "I'm killing the royal prince."

The girl whistled, "That's insane. But I admire your guts. Fine I'll give you what you want but you better pay me double once the mission is over."

Aerith nodded. "Deal." She paid the ninja girl and went on her way.

Her long pink half skirt tied around her waist fluttered in the snowy breeze which went nicely with her black pants and matching heeled boots.
The silver metal of her dragon gauntlets shined in the morning sunlight which offered little warmth.

A simple sleeveless black shirt barely covered the woman's big breasts but they were tightly bound with white bandages underneath what was left of her shirt. "No longer will we live in oppression." Aerith vowed, her long brown hair danced in the wind in loose soft curls then fell against the lower part of her back. The glow of her emerald green eyes held a fierce fire.

"Prince Cloud. Tonight you will die by my hands."
The assassin intended to carry out her dark promise.

Amidst the royal catacombs, Prince Cloud followed his father deep into the web of mazes.

"It is time, my son."

Cloud tilted his head, "Time for what?"

Noctis was a powerful king and could intimidate the strongest of warriors.

His icy blue eyes met Cloud's and Cloud averted his gaze. Noctis, although old with age, softened his expression as he made his son face him. "Time for you to carry on the legacy of the kings. I fear for your future, and the future of the people. This is why, I'm passing on the power to you a bit early than what was originally intended."

Cloud sighed, "Will you tell me why I'm here already?" Noctis chuckled, remembering how impatient he was when he was Cloud's age. "Of course." The king approached Cloud as a powerful blue light appeared glowing in the shape of a sword. "Please take your birthright and lead our people into a brighter future." Cloud took the blade, as it glowed brighter until it disappeared. Cloud looked at his father and smiled. "I can feel it. The power of the kings flowing through me."

King Noctis felt proud that now his son had full protection, the sacred sword was now in the prince's grasp. His father chuckled patting the prince on his shoulder. "Come, let's prepare for the celebration of your birthday." Cloud followed him. "Who knows maybe a beautiful woman will catch your eye." Cloud blushed, he was never one to openly flirt with the maidens of  their land. He was always, as described by his mother, to be awkward and and very shy. Maybe there was someone special out there for him, someone who would see pass his wealth and powerful title as prince.
One could only hope, couldn't they?

Hi Ashley,

it's time for us to give you feedback for your awesome entry in the Clerith Contest!

First of all, I would like to mention that we really enjoyed reading your story. The idea of the plot was fresh and Aerith's role seems very interesting.
In the beginning, the reader actually is a bit confused because she seems completely out of character. However, reading this chapter until the end, it feels like something is going to happen later, which might make a change (?) and bring back the Aerith that we used to know. Either way, you did a great job in making the reader want to learn more about what's going to happen.
Overall, you told the story very well so far and your creativity seems to know no limits!
We liked that this fic was mainly told through dialogue and your writing style is very comfortable to read.
It's a bit unfortunate that the chapter is so short but we are happy that you finished it for the contest and we wish you good luck!
